Building the future with
bio-based innovations

Cellulose hybrid construction innovation network

About our network

The global demand for construction is increasing, driven by population growth and housing shortages. Traditional materials like concrete and steel are energy-intensive and environmentally damaging, contributing to 38% of global CO2 emissions.

It’s time for eco-friendly construction using sustainable, recyclable materials. Bio-based materials sequester CO2 during growth and are renewable within decades. “Wood 3.0” focuses on cellulose-based construction materials, exploring biobased hybrids and fiber-based materials for ecological architecture. We investigate recyclable materials like wood, grass, alternative raw materials, and recycled waste. The network also addresses multifunctional composite systems and 3D printing of cellulose materials for enhanced design, acoustics, and resource efficiency.

Vision

Vision

Our vision is to create an innovation platform for ecological building products. Network partners across the entire value chain will collaborate to develop, commercialize, market, and establish innovative products.
We aim to build a bridge between German and international companies, fostering technical skills and enabling global cooperation. Environmentally friendly building and new housing solutions are global concerns.

Vision

Goal

  • Develop new applications, processes, and process combinations;
  • Review the feasibility of new development approaches for economic use and recycling;
  • Provide a foundation for transferring promising technologies to follow-up projects and industrial-scale implementation.
